Minutes for 3-11-2002 Mid-Term àDr. Reimer began by passing out the Run Lola Run questions to everyone, and said that he will pass out the short essay after the test. à Reimer passed out the mid-term and explained the instructions once more. à The questions, each worth 25 points, were as follows: 1A: Discuss the concept of neo-realism in the ending clip from Roberto Rossellini’s Rome, Open City. 2A: Discuss the concept of poetic realism in the ending clip from Marcel Carne’s Children of Paradise. 2A: We watched a clip from Ingmar Bergman’s Through a Glass Darkly and looked an excerpt from the screenplay. We then had to discuss the changes made, and what possible reasons for changing them. 2B: Watch a clip of the opening scene of R.W. Fassbinder’s Katzelmacher. Then addressed one of the following questions. a. How Fassbinder’s use of camera, movement, and mise-en-scene reflect his perception of German society? b. How the clip reflect the concerns of New German Cinema? 3A: Discuss the importance of the arrival scene for Roberto Benigni’s Life is Beautiful. 3B: Discuss the importance of Carmen’s arrival to dance class scene for Carlos Saura’s Carmen. 4A: Why are the two deathbed scenes important to the meaning of Tom Tykwer’s Run Lola Run? 4B: Why didn’t Lola take a taxi in Tom Tykwer’s Run Lola Run? à After the test people picked up their short essays and left.
