Class Minutes May 3, 2004

Chris Sanders

Today we wrapped up presentations and reviewed our class progress reports.

We had two class presentations today. The first presentation was by Aidan. He made a short film named Nightmare. Although sound was edited into the film it was silent the actors had no dialogue. Nightmare was about a young man that had been dumped by his girlfriend. Distraught, the young man takes up drinking and then he starts thinking, never a good combination. After numerous drinks he travels out to a field where he shots a picture of his ex-girlfriend. He passes out, but when he wakes up at home in bed his girlfriends picture is staring at him. The same picture he left in the field when he was shooting. Narrative at the end questions reality and how we know what is real.

The second presentation was Open Your Eyes and Vanilla Sky by Artur. Mostly Artur examined the differences as it pertained to violence in the film. We watched the scenes towards the end of the movie where the main characters find out they are in a dream world and how they react to this revelation. Cesar in Open Your Eyes reacted violently, shooting several police officers before accepting his situation. In Vanilla Sky the main character handles his dilemma with a bit more composer and refrains from killing anyone. When then watched the clip from Vanilla Sky that Aidan was taking about.

We also received our progress evaluation reports from Dr. Reimer. He explained out they were broken down into sections. Sections were as follows:

1st grade was our draft; it should be a 10 if not come see him.

2nd grade was our presentation. It was out of 30 potential points. Might be missing points due to going overtime or if our presentation was unclear or lacked an analysis.

3rd grade was our essay. It was out of a potential 60 points. Lack of points reflects our lack of a strong thesis, or mechanics or if we failed to document any sources for our research paper.

4th grade was class discussion and attendance. We should have a 100 if we did not miss more than 3 classes.

Lastly we discussed our final exam. Dr. Reimer gave out a study guide, and some study hints. We should be familiar with the terms in bold print within chapters 5,8,10, and 11. We should also know how these terms apply to the films we watched in class. Also anything on the minutes on the web is fair game.
